This slim volume is filled with written activities designed to get you pondering, questioning, and ultimately changing, your health habits. If you like lots of direction and exhortation in a self-help guide it may not provide enough structure for you, but if you are comfortable picking and choosing among a wealth of thought-provoking exercises you will find ample grist for the motivational mill.
This book can be an especially useful adjunct for health care providers using motivational interviewing or the stages-of-change approach. Botelho has done the work of translating some of the key principles of these models (as well as self-determination theory, solution-focused therapy, self-efficacy theory, and relapse prevention), into patient-friendly terms, ready for use as in-session activities or homework.
