Advanced Practice of Motivational Interviewing 8-Week Teleclass

Refresh and strengthen your ability to motivate others to make and maintain positive changes. Through interactive exercises, role-play practice, and case examples, you will learn to apply MI more flexibly and effectively. This course assumes familiarity with the spirit, principles and basic techniques of Motivational Interviewing.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Update your knowledge of recent developments in theory and practice of MI
  • Strengthen your ability to work in a client-centered AND directive manner through strategic use of MI microskills
  • Learn to apply MI with a range of specialized populations and settings, with specific topic emphasis to be chosen by the group
  • Provide and receive peer consultation on clinical cases or implementation questions

Who should attend?

This advanced workshop is designed to facilitate application of MI in addictions treatment, health care, and mental health settings. Prior training or supervised experience is recommended but not required. You will benefit from this workshop if you:

  • Are familiar with the spirit, principles, and basic techniques of Motivational Interviewing
  • Have begun to use MI in practice
  • Are seeking more than simply a refresher course
  • Want "hands-on" practice in a lively, supportive, small-group environment

Continuing education credit:

D., LLC maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Psychologists can earn 8 continuing education credits by completing this course. Partial credit is NOT available. Please contact me if you anticipate missing any of the classes to discuss how you may earn full credit.

How it works:

The class is provided by live conference call. All you need is a phone! I will use many of the same demonstrations and interactive exercises as in my face-to-face workshops. Sessions are live and fully interactive - everyone can talk to and hear each other. Class size is limited to 10 to allow everyone to participate. You will be responsible for long distance charges for calling in to the teleclass. Extensive workshop handouts will be provided. Calls will be recorded and made available for a limited time for review by workshop participants only. Recordings will be kept for no more than 30 days.

About the instructor:

Deborah H. A. Van Horn, Ph. D., is a clinical psychologist specializing in addictive behavior, health behavior, Motivational Interviewing, and cognitive-behavior therapy. She has 15 years of experience helping clinicians learn innovative and empirically-supported treatment approaches and has been an MI trainer since 1998.

Tuition:

The workshop fee is $279.00. The fee includes course handouts, access to supplemental materials online, and the opportunity to submit a case example for discussion. Refunds must be requested in writing at least 2 weeks prior to the first session. A $25.00 processing fee will be applied to all refunds. You may register online or by mail (see below).
